College I
Now that I’m decently fit and since I wanna put myself to good use and have a good time in college I looked up some clubs at UT that interested me.
I need to pick up martial arts again and stick with it this time.
Having taken stats senior year, this summer made me realize that I’m not as bad as I thought I was at sports. Not to be vainglorious, but I’m probably in the top 15% of people who can decently play a sport. I have height to my advantage. I’m youngin’ - the returns on learning a skill are hefty. I can develop the aggressiveness.
Aikido: They don’t seem to have a legit Sensei, and their practice timings are too demanding and inconvenient for a sissy martial art.
Archery: Practice is everyday, wth.
Badminton: Possibly. Tuesday and Thursday from 7:30 to 9:30 and Sunday.
Crew: I know I said I was gonna do it but I looked at timings and they have practice at 5:15 M-Th at a place that’s 3 miles away from UT when bus service isn’t available. Inconvenient much? Yes
Cycling: Maybe. If my bike doesn’t get stole and if I have free time since the club bikes on a daily basis.
Fencing: I wanna take lessons because you learn attack tactics and since EG and AL are taking it in college, it’d be a fun thing to do when we meet up again. Plus, lessons for beginners are only an hour on Wednesday.
Gymnastics: I really really really wanted to do this but, I can’t since the gymnasium the team uses is 5 miles away and practice is everyday if I want to join competitively.
Japan Karate: Most likely the closes to Okinawan Goju-Ryu, but it doesn’t seem legit.
Judo: Its either this or Taekwon Do.
Kendo: Too much equipment to buy.
Table Tennis: Apparently the 2008-2009 team consisted of 5 people? But they made it to nationals and placed 7th and came right behind Princeton. JOIN.
WTF Taekwaondo: Tues and Thurs for 2 hrs. MUST DO
Ultimate: Everyone seems to be doing it. I might if I have time.
Volleyball: I really wanna join. They have tryouts, if I make it, I’ll stick to this and TKD.
Pretty much I’ll be in TKD, Table Tennis, and Fencing unless I make the Men’s Volleyball team in which case I’ll drop Table Tennis.
